There’s always room to learn something new! Did you know that the numbers on produce stickers help you to identify whether you are buying organic, conventionally grown, or genetically modified produce? The stickers on produce have a 4-5 digit code know as a Price Look Up (PLU) code so the stores can identify and tell if it is organic, conventionally grown, or genetically modified produce.
4 -digit PLU in the 3000’s & 4000’s means conventionally grown
5-digit PLU starting with a 9 means organically grown
5-digit PLU stating with an 8 means genetically modified (GMO)
To sum it up, it is pretty easy to know what type of produce you are buying. We suggest you take a look at those codes the next time you go grocery shopping so you can be sure you are buying premium quality produce for you & your family!
