How does the spine affect Innate Intelligence?

Picture1

The chiropractic principle is almost too simple, which is partly why it’s taking so long for it to be understood and accepted. “What do the bones have to do with Innate Intelligence?” you might reasonably wonder.

As it turns out, our Innate Intelligence expresses itself largely through the nervous system, and that system is stretched over the body’s frame (the bones) like a spider web, or like the strings of a musical instrument.

Science has now confirmed that any distortion or restriction of our human frame can interfere with the nerves by disturbing their “tone” or “vibration,” in much the same way that the notes produced by plucking a guitar string are changed by altering its tension. Too much or too little, and we won’t be happy with the result.

The nervous system controls all of the organs and glands of the body, including the immune system, which determines how well we deal with colds, flu and other infections. Nerve root compression alters gene expression, which affects how likely we are to actually develop the conditions or diseases of our parents. In other words, we aren’t necessarily “doomed” to have the same problems they had – much of our future can be influenced by the choices we make in our own lives, including how we choose to care for our spines.

Beyond A Doubt, Adjusting the Subluxated Spine Changes Brain Function

Research: Adjusting the spine changes brain function by almost 20%, possibly in the prefrontal cortex.

brain function-11

“We do know that spinal function does affect brain function. There’s now solid evidence that adjusting the spine changes brain function.  This is the fourth time that the effect of adjusting the spine has on the brain has been studied.  This last time it was studied and confirmed by an independent medical researcher.” said Heidi Haavik, one of the researchers behind this recent study, published in the Journal of Neural Plasticity [1].

And, this study indicates that adjustments impact the function of the prefrontal cortex. Haavik is particularly excited about what this implies: “The latest study suggests that the changes that we do see in the brain when we adjust the spine do occur in the prefrontal cortex.  That part of the brain is like the conductor in the brain.”  Such a finding could explain many of the previous findings of chiropractic’s effects – “An effect on the function of the prefrontal cortex could explain many previous research results, such as improvements in sensorimotor function relevant to falls-prevention; better joint-position sense in both the upper limb and the lower limb; improved muscle strength in lower limb muscles; better pelvic floor control; and better ability to carry out mental rotation of objects.” observed Haavik.

If, as this research suggests, adjusting improves prefrontal cortex activity, a part of the brain that is responsible for just so much higher level function, then what does this mean in terms of chiropractic’s impact on things like behaviour, decision making, memory and attention, intelligence, processing of pain and emotional response to it, autonomic function, motor control, eye movements and spatial awareness?

Why This Study Matters. Again, this study not only shows that when we adjust subluxations we change brain function.  It changes activity by 20% just by adjusting.

And this effect may be on the conductor in the brain.

This shows us that every time we’re adjusting someone, we’re having a big, positive effect on the brain. And a brain that’s functioning differently and conducting its activities better is sure to have an effect on the body.

A Conductive Enviroment

Sowing SeedWhen farmers plant, they don’t question the seed’s innate ability to grow and produce crops. Neither do they dig seeds up every day to verify their progress. They simply prepare the soil as best as they can and trust nature to handle the rest.

Similarly, Chiropractors don’t question your innate ability to heal when we remove interference in your spine (Subluxations). We know the each human body is blessed with an internal intelligence – an auto pilot capable enough to coordinate and carry out all the steps required to build and repair damaged tissue when necessary. By adjusting, we’re simply maintaining an environment conducive for that healing process to occur (a clear nerve system) and TRUSTING the innate wisdom in the patient to run the show.

The only thing a doctor can ever heal is him or herself.  Likewise, the only one capable of healing you is the ‘doctor’ inside you. The best physicians in the world recognize and yield to this awesome Power within every patient. The best we can do is prep the soil and get out of innate’s way.

From Childhood Migraines to Creating a Community of Wellness

Childhood Migraines

water-drop-liquid-petal-clean-ripples-923122-pxhere-111111Suffering from severe migraines as a child and having tried everything to alleviate them, Dr Harold “Skip” George’s mom at the suggestion of a friend, turned to Chiropractic.  Having had tremendous results Skip made the decision to become a chiropractor, to enable everyone the opportunity to experience the benefits of chiropractic just as he did.  Dr George graduated magna cum laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic.

Humble Beginnings

As a young doctor with a family he took the plunge and opened his practice in his East Petersburg home.  As his practice grew, he built and moved the practice to its current location IMG_9902-2.jpgon the Manheim Pike.  As word continued to spread how chiropractic was helping his patients regain their health and achieve wellness naturally, Dr George took on several associate doctors.  One of them being Dr Beth Risser, a graduate of Sherman College of Chiropractic, joined the team in January of 1992.  As the practice continued to grow so did Dr Risser’s knowledge and passion of chiropractic and it’s attributes to health and wellness.

The Baton is Handed Off

Doc -Dr R-111After 47 years of changing lives through the power of the chiropractic adjustment, Dr George decided it was time to retire.  In October of 2015 Dr Risser rose to the challenge of filling the shoes of a legend within the chiropractic community and purchased the practice.  As her role changed with the addition of being the director of the office, what never changed is her purpose, commitment and care for her patients.  Dr Risser’s passion to help others goes beyond the walls of the office.  She is a board member of the Chiropractic Fellowship of PA, Sherman College Regent, as well as Heifer International.   She also volunteers her time at The Wittel Farm where she enjoys one of her favorite past times, gardening.

The Power That Made The Body, Heals The Body

Is a quote from the developer of chiropractic, BJ Palmer.  Although the Baton BJ Palmer-22has been handed over, it remains the foundation that George’s Chiropractic Health Center stands on.  We know the central nerve system is what controls all systems of the body.  We also know that when a vertebrae is out of alignment and putting pressure on the nerve system (subluxation) the body is not able to function properly.  Over time these subluxations left uncorrected causes body breakdown which can lead to many different complications within the body.  Dr Risser’s passion is to help everyone understand the importance of regular chiropractic care and healthy lifestyle choices.  She invites you to schedule a no charge ~ no obligation initial consultation and exam.  We also encourage you to take a few minutes to visit our website for more information.

Disease Care or Vitalistic Care?

Which type of care makes sense to you?

Disease care is offered by someone who is attempting to treat symptoms, alleviate pain or “cure” disease.  This is an “outside in” approach.  Usually a person waits until they have a symptom and seek care to treat the pain with drugs, therapy or surgery.  A person who prescribes to this type of care ignores the cause of the problem and tries to simply cover it up.  They also ignore the powerful healing ability  of the body and the functioning of the body as a whole.

Vitalistic care on the other hand does not treat symptoms or disease, but rather concerns itself with  making sure the body is working the best it can internally—an “inside out” approach.  A person who prescribes to this type of care recognizes the internal wisdom of the body that heals, repairs and maintains function within the body and makes sure there is not interference to  this mechanism.  This type of care goes after the cause of the problem rather than covering it up.

maxresdefault

Vitalistic Chiropractors provide true health care.  They concern themselves  with interference to the system of the body that controls all functions—the nerve system.

Vertebral subluxations cause an interference to the nerve system, therefore body functioning is decreased and thus the person’s overall health suffers.  Chiropractors also respect the body’s innate wisdom and constant striving to maintain health.

If going after the cause of the problem and thus maintaining the functioning of the body from within make more sense to you than treating the symptom or disease, then you are in the vitalistic model.

As chiropractors, we are proud to offer you this type of care that can truly be called vitalistic care.

Why I Get Adjusted

Dr R Kyak

Why I Get Adjusted ~ By Dr. Risser

Perhaps you have been in the office when I’m getting an adjustment and have wondered what pain, symptom or health challenge I’m having.

Truth is, like we’ve explained so, so, many times….chiropractic adjustments ARE NOT intended to make you FEEL better, they are intended to make you HEAL better and BE better, whatever that may be for you.

So the reason(s) I get adjusted are way too numerous to include in this short article but I will explain to you MY purpose in getting my regular adjustments which by the way, I receive 2 to 3 adjustments a week, and have been doing that regularly for 30 years.

When I first learned of the purpose of chiropractic at the age of 25, it rocked my world. It was everything that I was looking for in taking care of my body. The philosophy of chiropractic made complete sense to me: that the power of healing is within us, it just needs no interference. That wholeness and harmony within our bodies is the way our bodies are intended to be. That outside toxins and stressors can interfere with this harmony in the body by interfering with the nerve system.

THESE PRINCIPLES OF THE NATURAL WAY OUR BODY FUNCTIONS WERE SO AWE-INSPIRING, I HAD TO LEARN MORE. And that’s why I chose to be a chiropractor.

So when you see me receiving a chiropractic adjustment it’s because:

I want to ensure that my body is functioning at its absolute optimum, not because of any ache or pain. Do I have aches? Of course. I’m human, living an earthly experience.  And, those who know me know that I love to do challenging things that sometimes put an undeserved stress on my body.

But the adjustment I am receiving is to ensure that my body can deal with the stresses the best way possible AND to recover, AND to keep my body operating so that I can continue to do what I love to do. When my body is having a particular challenge, I get adjusted so that my body can deal with it in the most effective way. If my body is trying to rid itself of something it recognizes as a toxin or detrimental to its functioning, I get an adjustment and let the body deal with it.

My INNATE intelligence is WAY smarter than my EDUCATED intelligence. I say this because we like to be in control of situations:  the overtaking of our “educated” intelligence. That’s one reason why drugs have been so overused. If a symptom is undesirable, take a drug and wipe it out! HOWEVER, that action doesn’t eliminate anything other than the ability to have your body deal with the problem at hand efficiently. It just masks the problem, allowing the problem to fester even further. If you think that drugs actually HEAL a problem, you have surely been mislead. Drugs are super for a first aid or emergency situation, but then, it’s best to be free from the chemical offense they do to our bodies.

I’d rather yield to the functioning of innate intelligence which absolutely knows better than anything I may think I can reason out with my educated intelligence. So, therefore, I will get adjusted to make sure the power of my innate intelligence is able to work uninhibited.

Then,  I can continue to enjoy all that life has to offer in the most desirable way possible for me. AND , when my body is operating at its best, I also can contribute to the care of others  and to serve them so that they can experience all that life has to offer them.

I believe that nature needs no help, just no interference AND that the POWER THAT MADE THE BODY, HEALS THE BODY.

It IS as simple as that!

Take a Load off Your Spine

Who doesn’t know how to use a backpack? Load it up and strap it on right?

Did you know that a backpack has the potential to alter posture and add stress to your child’s still growing spine?

The proper purchase and use of a backpack is critical.

When you’re out looking for a backpack it’s important that you find one the that fits your child properly. It should not hang down below the waist more than 4 inches.

The backpack should have two padded and adjustable shoulder straps and a waist strap if possible.

Look for symmetrical pockets so that items can be loaded and kept separate and at the same time remain in balance. It is important to distribute the weight evenly. A fully loaded backpack should not exceed 15% of your child’s body weight.

Pack it light ~ wear it right!

As the experts on posture, spinal alignment and its effect on your health, let us help you find the best backpack for your child.
